You’ll receive the mission Stormy Night 2 by Sato after you’ve completed the Stormy Night mission and defeated the Truck Hermit Crab inside the Vortex. Sato will arrive on another stormy night and task you with finding and entering the Vortex again and defeating the monster within to collect a Super Rare Boss Card.
Where To Find The Mantis Shrimp Vortex
Dive into the Blue Hole as Sato leaves. Just like the first mission, the Vortex will only remain open during the stormy night, so you’ll need to do some night fishing. Dive down, and you’ll find the Vortex to the far right at around 20-50m in shallow waters. The Vortex’s final location can vary, so you might need to look around a bit to find it.

Interact with the Vortex by pressing E, and a pop-up will warn you of an upcoming boss fight. Press Spacebar to continue. The Mantis Shrimp boss lies on the other end of the Vortex this time around, and you’ll need to be amply prepared to fight it.
Mantis Shrimp Fight Guide
Before the fight starts, you’ll notice a weapon chest and a couple of oxygen capsules on the ground. If you forgot to bring your best damage-dealing weapon and mistakenly brought something like a Net Gun, use the weapon chest to find a Triple Axel. Either way, proceed to the right to trigger the fight.
The Mantis Shrimp’s gloves serve as shields that protect its weak point—its eyes—from attacks. You’ll need to wait for an opportunity to attack its eyes whenever they’re exposed.

There are only three types of attacks the Mantis Shrimp can do, and here’s how to deal with every one of them.
- Quick Jabs: The Mantis Shrimp will throw quick, non-telegraphed punches at your last location and then quickly bring its punching gloves back up. Avoid the jabs by keeping Dave constantly in motion. There is no opportunity to strike back.
- Straight Punch: The shrimp will pull its right hand back, hold it for a couple of seconds and then release a powerful punch at where Dave was standing when the punching animation started. This attack can also be avoided by moving out of the way. After the attack, the boss will put down the gloves for a brief moment; use this opportunity to get a couple of shots in at its eyes to deal damage.
- Power-Up Punch: The Mantis Shrimp will slam the ground a couple of times and jump back for a powerful straight punch that changes the water current to push Dave to the far left wall of the chamber lined with spikes. Its gloves will glow a bright white to indicate the punch is coming. A steel chain with a handle gets dropped from the roof of the chamber on every ground slam. Swim up to this chain and pull it down like a pulley to lift up the big yellow bulb-like steel anchor. Move the anchor up so that it lines up with the incoming punch. If the punch lands, the boss will be stunned for a few seconds with its eyes exposed. Use this opportunity to deal as much damage as possible before it reorients itself.

If you run out of bullets, an ammo box drops every time the shrimp slams the ground; use it to keep dealing damage.
Once you deal enough damage to the eyes, the Mantis Shrimp will fall down in defeat, and a short cutscene will play. To complete the mission Stormy Night 2, you’ll need to cut open the Mantis Shrimp to find 2 Mantis Shrimp tails, indicated by a blue diamond icon on the fallen boss. Interact with the Vortex to finish your dive and get back to the ship. Sato will call to congratulate you, and you’ll receive the Mantis Shrimp Boss Card in MarinCa.
